Woodland
Noble have worked with Sainsburys and the Woodland Trust to develop Sainsburys Free Range and SO Organic Woodland Eggs.
Woodland Eggs were developed following the observations of free range egg producer John Widdowson. John had noticed that his hens preferred to spend more time in the shade of trees and hedges, dust bathing and foraging as their ancestors did, rather than exposed in an open field. John set about adapting his farm by planting lots of trees. As a result he found his hens were happier, healthier, ranged further and laid top quality eggs.
A joint initiative by Woodland Eggs and the Woodland Trust, the UK’s leading conservation charity, is
donated to the Woodland Trust to help conserve the UK’s woodland. Since the launch in 2004, over £222,000 has been donated.
Producers also benefit from the brand, for they receive a 2p per dozen premium, representing a £1m investment by Sainsbuys and Noble.
